Rescuing Equines In Need

Dr. Joy Baker, DVM

REIN began with a single Facebook post and one person unwilling to look away.

Founder Joy Baker came across an urgent plea for a herd of feral horses that had landed in a kill pen in Bowie, Texas. With only days remaining before they were scheduled to be euthanized, Joy knew she had to act. She quickly mobilized her network, raised the funds, secured homes, and arranged transportation to bring the horses to safety in North Carolina.
Every horse made the long journey. As the sun rose, they stepped off the trailer into a place where, for the first time in a long time, their future was no longer uncertain.

What followed took months of patience, consistency, compassion, and training. Trust had to be earned. Confidence had to be rebuilt. Slowly, each horse began to reveal who they were beneath the fear—individuals with distinct personalities, abilities, and remarkable potential.

Through Joy’s leadership and the dedication of an incredible team, every horse from that herd was given the opportunity for a new life. Their story became the foundation of REIN and a lasting reminder of what is possible when someone chooses to act.

“These horses did not need to become something extraordinary. They already were. They simply needed the chance to be seen, understood, and given a future.” Dr. Joy Baker, DVM

Firsts

Every “first” matters. The first step closer, the first moment of curiosity, and the first time a Mustang chooses connection over distance are quiet but meaningful signs of growing trust. These moments cannot be rushed—they are earned through patience, consistency, and allowing the horse to choose. See More Firsts
