REIN’s Board of Directors provides the leadership, oversight, and guidance that help move our mission forward. Together, they bring experience, perspective, and a shared commitment to the long-term welfare of the horses we serve.
Dr. Joy Baker, DVM, CVA, CVC, Herbology
FOUNDER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Dr. Joy Baker earned her veterinary degree from Auburn University and went on to work in orthopedic research before specializing in acupuncture and chiropractic care for performance horses.
An accomplished dressage rider, she has earned USDF bronze, silver, and gold medals.
Joy founded REIN Rescue after rescuing and rehabilitating a herd of feral horses from a Texas kill pen, turning that experience into a mission to help equines in need through specialized care, rehabilitation, and responsible placement.
Lynn Carnes
Board of Directors Chief Programs & Leadership Officer
Lynn founded Creative Spirits Unleashed to help others tap into their creativity and lead meaningful change.
She is a TEDx speaker, author, podcaster, entrepreneur, and executive leadership coach who works with business owners, executives, teams, and athletes. Her latest book, Dancing the Tightrope, explores lessons in pressure, fear, and uncertainty through her experiences with horses.
Outside of work, Lynn enjoys horseback riding, water skiing, pottery, sculling, flying, watercolor painting, and hiking.
Jane Barrett
Board of Directors Chief Operations Officer (COO)
Jane Chatterton brings extensive equine experience to REIN, including a background in jumping, eventing, and restarting off-track Thoroughbreds for second careers.
After retiring from a career in IT and Supply Chain, she now focuses her time on horses and began volunteering with REIN in 2025, assisting with horse care, events, the newsletter, and social media.
Jane and her husband, John, live on their 27-acre farm in Green Creek, NC, with their three horses.
Eleanor Ellis
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Eleanor Ellis owns Evermore Farm, a boarding and training facility in Brooklet, GA. She is an experienced coach with IEA and IHSA, including coaching a 2021 IEA National Champion High School Team.
Eleanor adopted three embryo-transfer mares rescued by REIN, and today all three are thriving at Evermore Farm and teaching young riders.

REIN’s Strategic Leadership Team brings together the people responsible for shaping the organization’s growth, programs, operations, and long-term direction. Working alongside the Founder & Executive Director, the team turns vision into action by building the structure, systems, partnerships, and programs needed to move REIN’s mission forward.

Dr. Joy Baker oversees the REIN organization, guiding its mission, equine welfare standards, and overall direction.
As Founder & Executive Director, she provides the leadership and vision that keep REIN focused on creating meaningful, lasting futures for the horses in its care.
Lynn Carnes

Lynn helps shape REIN’s programs, leadership initiatives, and educational experiences, bringing her expertise in executive coaching, facilitation, and organizational development to the mission.
She is responsible for helping develop meaningful, well-structured programs that engage participants, strengthen leadership, and expand the ways REIN connects people with Mustangs and the lessons they have to offer.
Jane Barrett
Board of Directors Chief Operations Officer (COO)
Jane oversees the systems, logistics, and day-to-day coordination that keep REIN running efficiently.
Drawing on her background in IT and supply chain, she helps manage processes, vendors, resources, transportation, and operational planning so the team can stay focused on the horses and the mission.
Shell Brodnax
Chief Strategy & Advancement Officer
With 36 years of non profit experience from foster, to a Founder, Shell Brodnax serves as REIN’s Chief Strategy & Advancement Officer, helping shape the organization’s long-term direction, growth, and sustainability. She leads strategic planning, development, partnerships, sponsorships, brand direction, and organizational initiatives designed to expand REIN’s reach and strengthen its mission. With a focus on building the structure, resources, and relationships needed for the future, Shell works across the organization to turn ideas into meaningful, measurable progress.
Training | Development
REIN’s Training & Development team helps each horse build the skills, confidence, and trust needed for a successful future. Through thoughtful, individualized training, they prepare horses for responsible placement while helping reveal the potential each one has to become a capable and valued partner.
Lindsey DuChaine
Director of Training
Her business name speaks for itself, EnjoyEquine. After gaining experience in various disciplines and training environments, she realized and settled into her niche:

Liz Scoville
Trainer
Liz owned and operated her training and showing business, ESF LLC, for more than 30 years in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. After moving back to North Carolina to be closer to family, she began freelancing within the local equestrian community, where she met Joy and quickly connected with REIN’s mission.
Horses have played an important role throughout Liz’s life, and she has long wanted to find a meaningful way to give back to them. Through REIN, she is able to share her experience while helping provide horses in need with care, opportunity, and a second chance. Fun Facts About Liz
Haley Johnson
ASSISTANT HANDLER
Hayley’s journey with horses began when she inherited her great-grandfather’s mare following his passing. With very little previous horse experience, Hayley and her mare learned together, sparking a lasting interest in the equine world.
Hayley worked at several English and Western show barns. Those experiences gave her valuable hands-on exposure to horse care, barn operations, and a variety of equestrian disciplines.
After the passing of her mare, Hayley stepped away from horses for approximately two years while beginning her engineering education. She has since returned to the equine community and is excited to once again be working around horses and continuing to build her knowledge and experience.
Christina Fisher-Hensley
RIDER
Christina Fisher-Hensley is a seven-time USEF Horse of the Year Champion with extensive experience in hunters and jumpers, including International Hunter Derbies and Grand Prix competition.
She operates a training facility in Marshall, NC, where she specializes in developing young horses with an emphasis on trust and individualized training.
Christina shares REIN’s belief that every horse has value and purpose and enjoys helping give horses a second chance.
Adoption Services
Our Adoption Services team creates thoughtful, lasting matches between horses and adopters supporting every partnership from first inquiry to lifelong home.
REIN’s Adoption Coordinators guide you through each step: exploring available horses, reviewing applications, and arranging meet-and-greets. Working closely with our training team, they match horses to adopters based on temperament, experience, and lifestyle then handle the paperwork, transport, and transfer to make it official.

Danny helps keep REIN running smoothly behind the scenes by caring for the property, maintaining the facilities, and tackling the everyday repairs and projects that keep the farm safe, functional, and welcoming. From fixing what breaks to keeping things clean, organized, and in good working order, his hands-on support makes a real difference for both the horses and the people who care for them.

Spokes Horse
Bali is the founding member and “spokes horse” of the REIN Rescue.
Bali arrived with the first herd of feral horses from the kill pen in Texas. He was a 3.5 year old feral stallion, but after a year of living at REIN Rescue, Bali has turned into a wonderful horse who loves attention and his mom, Joy.
